for those taking trazodone.. do you get the stuffy nose...if so does it go away and what can be done to stop it... i tried it a couple times even with nose spray and always woke up an hour or so later with nose completely blocked...super annoying when trying to sleep...

I have never noticed that side effect myself. My big problem with Trazodone is that I build a tolerance to it within a week at the longest.

After that I have to double the dose every week just for it to work. After a month or so I would have to take almost the whole bottle to sleep the whole night.

i only tried it twice.. still have two full bottles as i filled it anyway before trying... it is pretty low dose too.. maybe the lowest being 50 mg...a lot seem to like it from reviews i have read... tried ambien once but found it awful.. didnt feel rested at all.. felt like i was awake the whole time .. sort of like a hypnotic state...

I noticed that it completely dries out my nose. It doesn’t make my nose stuffy necessarily, but it completely dries out my nose and sinuses as well as my eyes. Sort of like a strong anti-histamine.
I have been on 100 mg for a while to help maintain sleep. It’s not the ideal sleep medication, but it definitely is not habit-forming and at least for me does not have any hangover type of effects.

Edit: as Westend mentioned it does build tolerance. From my experience not as bad as traditional sleeping medications.

Trazodone is actually an antidepressant that is often used off label for trouble sleeping because it is not addictive.

Someone who thought he was smarter than me tried to sic it on me for sleeping. He was kind of surprised when I told him it used to be called Deseryl and was used as an AD and fell sort of in between tricylcics and the serotonin re uptake gang like prozac. Different meds affect people in different ways. When you see a commercial for an AD or any med on TV, just try to count the side effects listed Can't do it, there are so many.

I tried trazodone for sleep about 6 weeks ago. Made it for a month before I had to quit. I had bad abdominal pains and diarrhea. Things went back to normal after I quit, so it was the trazodone. It was an individual reaction on my part. Do read the potential interactions if you try it.

Does anybody know where this might be available without a script? By far, it works better for me for sleep than anything else I've tried, but my Dr. won't prescribe it anymore. Too bad, because it was so cheap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trazodone is generally available at many overseaspharmacy's so just look at some of the websites listed in the IOP sections of the forum. It is usually not very expensive compared to many other sleep meds.
