Really? I haven't seen too many reports of it used for that. It was recently suggested to me to replace my bz for anxiety, which I laughed at of course. But it encouraging that it can be used for that. Thanks for sharing and glad its working for you.

it is also used for pain...my old doggo used 300 mg 2-3 times a day for pain for the last couple years of her life... she made it to nearly 16 which is almost unheard for a bull mastiff mix...

Yeah that's a big dog, sadly larger breeds tend to have much shorter lives. Glad it helped her prolong life and improve quality of life without pain. I had a family member that was given gabapentin for shingles pain, since it's nerve related pain. And a friends mother was given this to prevent non-epileptic seizures, so it seems this one gets a wide array of uses.

I know gabapentin is used off-label for anxiety, but pregabalin has been proven to work and has been approved in many countries to treat anxiety disorders. Both work in the same way (both gabapentinoids) but pregabalin is the stronger of the two.

As for occasional use, I expect the gabapentin gives a numbing effect to emotions, which can be seen as mood boosting.

It seems to be widely prescribed in the U.K. for any type of pain. My Mother was prescribed it whilst waiting for a hip replacement, friend on it after fracturing an elbow, I was offered it for a cervical fracture. I suspect it’s being prescribed due to GP’s being terrified of giving opioids.

Pregablin is a much better one, but it's harder to get a prescription for it unfortunately.

I took Gabapentin for 4 days after fracturing C6 in neck. I was a drooling mess unable to walk in straight line or put a sentence together and not no pain relief. Gp started me on too high dose age then I tried to switch me to Pregabalin. I refused and after a battle got tram, which took the pain edge off.
